My activities and experiences in computer related areas include the following:

• Open-source CMS and wikis. I am familiar with the setup and administration of below content managment and wiki systems and run several sites with most of them. I also have some knowledge about their APIs for themes and plugins.

• Web design. I am familiar with (X)HTML and CSS. Although I am able to create designs from scratch, I prefer to use open-source layouts as a basis for my modifications.
• Custom web-applications.
• System administration. Since 2001 I run my own computers exclusively on Debian GNU/Linux and I have gathered extensive knowledge on the internals of UNIX-type operating systems and on how to use them to provide various services. I administer the rented server which hosts this site among over 20 others.

  • Email. I am familiar with the postfix and exim MTAs and the setup and running of the list-management software Mailman. I also can administer more complex setups with MX-records, run IMAP(S) servers and handle email sorting with Procmail and spam-filtering with Spamassassin.
  • Web. The Apache webserver and its configuration for multiple sites and needs are familioar to me, so is its integration with the scripting languages PHP, Python and Perl and the database servers MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • DNS. I administer over a dozen domain names plus subdomains. Although I would be able to, I do not run my own DNS-server but instead use differend external registration services.
  • SSH. I use remote administration on the command line on a daily basis. In additon, I know how to use SSH for tunneling and secure port forwarding.
